Timing marks 2.5 v6
« on: 10 October 2008, 18:31:09 »

I have undertaken the majority of work in rebuilding the heads on my v6.  They are now back on, torqued up and waiting the cams then timing etc.  I tried to buy the cambelt dvd a couple of weeks ago but it was out of stock.  Anyone got a diagram of the timing marks for the setup or any other suggestions?  Access to "Vauxhall College" the GM training site would be an incredible source of info for us all.  I suppose thats out of the question...

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers,

Martin :-/

Martin, the timng marks will be notched on the cylinder head itself.  If you look above the cam sprockets you'll see two notches, one above each of the cam sprockets.

The cam sprockets are numbered 1 through 4 and have a notch near the number, these should line up with the notches on the casting.

Be mindfull of cams 3 and 4 as the distance between the numbers is closer than 1+2.

All being well, you should find that the locking tool then goes in without issues.

Gents,

Thanks for the information.  This is brilliant.  It's not that I wouldn't pay £6 for the cambelt dvd but it's sold out!!  You might see a post below re where TDC is... any help welcome.

???? What is a "timing gage"?  I was just going to st up all the marks, tension and...

You need something like this
but preferably a Sykes Pickavant version.
On the 2.5/3.0 V6 it's possible to alter relative timing between 1&2 cam and 3&4 cam and although you can replace the belt without a timing kit to hold everything in place for you, you can't do it properly. You've 2 eccentric idlers & a tensioner to juggle with.

Thanks Andy,

You have convinced me to hire the kit!  I'll just plant all the cosmetica and electrics on the top end for now!

Cheers,

Martin :y
