No 14 fuse problem - help needed
« on: 15 October 2008, 12:45:56 »

Hi!

I've a problem with the climate control and power steering function.
Yesterday I started the car and I've felt heavy the power steering func and I showed the climate control is nor working (the display stayed black).
The car is a 2000 model year 3.0V6 Facelift.
I've checked the fuse box and one of my fuses (No 14 which guards Power steering, cigarette lighter, heated front seats, electrically operated rear window blind, air circulation system, electric air conditioning, anti-theft alarm system, heated rear seats) was not OK.
Certainly I've repalced, but after turn on the ignition it has go out again.
I ve a power steering now but I have to turn had the wheel lik before...but as I know there are a hydraulic power steering in the car...how does it posible?
Any idea where should I search the problem? (ok i will disconnect, cigarette lightr, rear blind, heated seats)

Hi

The power steering is run from an electic motor. This is how the fuse can stop it working. When it stops working the steering becomes heavy.

It is quite common to find a small coin (or something else metal) has been dropped down the hole for the cigarette lighter. This causes the short circuit and blows the fuse.

Its not, its run from a mechanical pump but, it has a solenoid valve in th steering box which is controlled by a small ECU to avry the assistance with speed.

Thx everybody.
The problem was caused by the rear electric blind. When I've disconnected and turn the ignition on, everything has worked fine :D
And the power steering is again the same....yes these are the mechnaics here >:(
Thx again.
