rough idle code 0130
« on: 28 September 2008, 17:02:44 »

hi guys
car starts fine from cold and warm.
when choke comes off the car runs rough is hunting all over trying to idle, sometimes seems to hold back as if missing. have recentley done HG, cleaned sump, pickup pipe, all breathers, jet in small breather pipe, iacv, throttle body.
then when the EML light comes on it seems to drive ok, idles still lumpy but no hesitation or missing. has had a new cat and front pipe.
please help i need this car to be reliable for work.
thanks

Check that you have plugged in the o2 sensor on the down pipe!

P0130 fault code is something to do with the o2 sensor I think  :-/

Which you have possibly disturbed when changing the downpipe + cat.

LMF are utter rubbish - dont buy steering idlers from them! You've been warned![/size]

hi
it has all the symptoms of dirty iacv but i cleaned this. how come it drives ok once eml light comes on? dosent want to stall then ? dosent hold back? would the 02 sensor give these probs ?
is it worth replacing the iacv ? suppose it would be a good place to start. how much are they and from where is best to buy ?
thanks

Is the light on constantly or does it go out at all?  Definitely no holes in the exhaust?  Exhaust is definitely the first place to check.  Take the revs up (slowly) to 4500rpm in 3rd gear and see if the light extinguishes.

hi
the eml light comes on after a couple of minutes then stays on, but drives fine with it on, drives rough when its not on.
exhaust does seem loud but we checked it on the ramp at work last week and it wasnt blowing anywhere. the cat seemed really noisy, like raspy/tinny noise. kinda gets louder when revved .it is new though, could it be knackered ? should it not make a noise, could this be my prob if its broken up inside ?

Sounds like the cat if it's making rattly noises.  Would also explain the o2 sensor code.  How old is the exhaust?

Edit...  the exhaust is new!  Cat should not be rattling.

Made it difficult for yourself - if you suspected the maf before you'd be looking for a code which was not there.  Now you've unplugged it you will definitely have a maf code so you may replace unnecessarily.

Maf sensors are not a common failure and often a mis-diagnosis from garages.  Unless the maf sensor has been messed about with - i.e back taken off then it's unlikely to be the cause of your problem.

Still reckon you should be looking into the rattle from your exhaust.  Keep checking for more stored codes as well.
