Front Cigarette Lighter Removal
« on: 02 November 2008, 16:44:45 »

Does anyone know how u remove the front cigarette lighter wiring. I bought a 1999 2.0 MV6 yesterday however the ashtray was not in properly but though nothing of it at the time.

Ive been out cleaning the car out and though Id put it in correctly. I worked out how the mechanism works and managed to get it refitted however when testing it would not work so I removed it again and found a wire broken off the back of the lighter. Ive got one that works on my 2.0 so could swap it but cant figure out how u remove it or disconnect the wiring so I could just change the lot??

Does anyone know how?????????

Ooops ::) I meant a 3.0.

Unfortunatly yes, one of the wires appear to be snapped off but the cables are that tight that there is only about 1" movement in them. I know the one in my 2.0 works fine so could swap it accross but cant see where the wiring goes too??

What do you mean by remove one screw??  :-?

Can you extend the wire?

1 screw to remove entire ashtray.

I removed the ashtray from the hoising by just gently pulling on it and it refits by just aligning with the slots. I suppose if i disconnect the second cable then i may be able to extend tha cables and resolder onto the lighter. I just thought they had just gone to a connector block.

Where is the screw you are on about?
