Engine Management Light
« on: 15 November 2008, 18:14:39 »

I have an Omega 2.5 V6 on a N reg (1996), and I wonder if anyone can provide some advice, having experienced the same problem.

On the last 2 long journeys I've been on (which haven't been consecutive), the orange engine management light on the dashboard has suddenly come on and stayed on throughout the rest of the day. At the time I was on a motorway, and was using the cruise control.

Then you go to start the car the next day and no light at all. The time frame between the 2 occasions was probably a good 10 - 12 weeks, very puzzling !!!.

I haven't gone back to my garage to get them to plug in a diagnostics machine to the ECU and get the fault code if one exists, as they say its going to be £ 30 for the privelage !!!. So I thought maybe someone may be able to point me in the right direction in getting the problem solved.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

look at the post called 'paperclip test and pedal trick' in Maintenence Guides to see how to read your engine ECU codes for free yourself, and post up the results :)

As above. Forget paying 30 notes as the test can be done with 2 pence worth of paperclip. Really easy to do as well.  :y

As suggested, do check the codes but I'll bet it will be one or both Lambdas (O2 sensors) in the front section of the exhausts. Replacement is straightforward provided they have not seized
