valio wipers (aeroblade style)
« on: 16 November 2008, 00:59:28 »

the original design as far as i know, now copied by vx with standard fit, or retro fit, but not listed for the omega. as you can see from the pic these models fit and have transformed the wipers .

Where as before they knocked and screeched and smeared after 5 months, all those issues have gone as they would with these new items, but the improvement is marked over the old wipers when fitted new. i know some people have had issues with them and no, they don't touch the screen by the tax disc, bot neither did the old traditional style.

this is why i wanted to try these over the original multi spring type. see the scratches in the screen inherited from the previous owner caused by well buggered blades with the rubber hanging off. i know none of you will let yours get this bad but gives an idea how the wear can end up over time, not good. and my previous omega was going the same way after 140k. you can see where each spring pressure point is 4 visible in the pic, trust me the actual view is much worse :( heat reflective screen coming on Monday :)

and before the righteous police start whining no i did not take the picture while driving :P

Where did you get them?

Can you post a picture of what they look like from the outside of the car?

I've seen something similar on a Vectra B and I was impressed, but I thought that the lump where they are attached to the metal wiper arm was pretty bulky. I don't know what make those were though.

the general consensus, is their life/performance is similar to traditional wipers.  Problem on omega is amount of curve on screen, so generally not that great.

I tend to put GM ones on annually (sometimes more often if I'm lazy scrapping ice  :-[), always have quiet, good wipers.

pics below, got them from all parts automotive ltd, a local motor factors. I only used that retailer as the vx parts man could not tell me which gm equivalent would fit, i guess the issue may mean splitting a box of 2, where as valio are sold individually.

Note, i did not buy them for short term performance ie the life of one pair, i bought them due to the design and lack of individual pressure points on each spring as the original design. More to minimise the wear on the screen, than anything. The rubber tip is no different, the pressure on it is...

You see the issue The Boy is talking about, on the left where there is a gap to the screen, so what??? and the originals where the same!
no good for rear window on estates, so they will tell you no doubt

I fitted this style of wipers to my Trafic van not long ago.  A day later I was going down the m42 and I picked the wrong moment to wash wipe the screen, just as a fat pigeon took off... the nearside wiper exploded on contact with said bird accompanied by a very loud thud  :D ;D ;D

Moral of the story - yes they're nice wipers, but they're not very strong.

I bought a set of the VX branded blades about 6 months ago. They are quite a nice style but the mounting point on the arm is quite bulky and spoilt by the large GM branding stamped in white letters on the section facing the car, making them quite obtrusive. The blades have albut given up already,(but I do drive over 800 miles a week )so have lasted an average years worth of norma; mileage.
I am unsure if I would use the same again ,mainly due to the white print, but the set shown looks less like it has no marketing on it,so might try them.
Do agree with others about the passenger side blade on "park" not touching the screen, but remember it being like that with other brands so accept that the curved screen is the culprit.

normally the gm branding is just stamped, not coloured....

I've seen the GM blades with the white writing on too. Bloody ugly.I don't suspect it will last, and from TB's post perhaps they've stopped the ugly white branding already.

Companies often use brash branding when they first introduce a new product then phase it out later.

I like the look of those on Chris's car, far less bulky than the GM one's I've seen before. I'll be looking out for those. My car currently has standard design Bosch blades which are tired out after only 800 miles. They do have a "wind blade" on each wiper which is unusual. I nicked the driver's side one from my other car and have no wind blades on that so that I could have both the same on the Omega.

The guy behind the counter said he had a pair on his car and to ignore the age indicators that turn yellow faceing the driver, you can see the removeable sticker on the top pic of the packageing, its now black so unobtrusive at the moment, but will turn yellow over time. Stick a bit of black tape over the top of the print/indicator, or... Is it the sticker that needs removeing in your case?

What model did you use in the gm brand, vectra b/c retro fit im guessing? My parts man did not know as the omegas not listed... I am sure the gm ones would be cheaper via trade club, if they are on the trade club list of course?

I bought them about April at usual VX parts counter in Gillingham ,Kent. They were hanging up on a display,if I remember and were marked as aerofoil but were sold seperatly 24inch/19inch so I just got the size that fitted, but after looking I think they would be Vectra C fit.The lettering is bold white  as is marked GM and from memory they were about £20=00 the pair but might have been less.I need to go into VX this week for a couple of bits so will see if they are still on display and if the white print has gone, unless they bought in a load of original stock.
