air con smelly
« on: 29 November 2008, 17:20:41 »

:-/hi all can any one tell me if when on hot the air con sucks in air from somewhere different from when its on cold.i have a smell of fumes coming into the car when the air con is on warm/hot  when i stop at lights or a junction etc that isnt there when the air con is on cold.and would not having a pollen filter fitted affect this as i discovered today that mine hasnt.no smell of fumes when driving along.also a question for a friend is it a straight forward swap to 3ltr cams into a 2.5.thanks

You need to buy an air con deodoriser that is discharged in the car with the air con  running on recirc and let the can empty, then vent the car by opening the doors. You a get it at most vx dealers or even half****s

engine fumes getting in, with no pollen filter.
You could have
Blown cam cover seals.
Blown exhaust manifold gaskit.
Have seen posts along the lines of carbon monoxide(or dioxide what ever it is) poisoning. Beware.
Might not be that, i have no personal experience of it. Just seen its association on here. Hth

solved the problem....feel a bit of a plonker really, recently changed the oil but did not tighten the oil filler cap properly so it was spitting oil onto the manifold.tightened it up and hey presto the smell has gone.doh!!!
