Oil Filter on V6
« on: 11 December 2008, 12:15:30 »

Am changing my oil....

How does the blessed oil filter come off.

It is the type containing a paper element. Got it nice and loose but seems to just spin on its threads.

Been spinning for ages now. Either its an improbably long thread or ??????

Any thoughts or am I being stupid  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Only the cap should come off, it sounds like you have loosened the whole body due to the cap being overtightened last time.

You could try holding the body with a strap wrench whilst trying to undo the cap.
If this doesnt work, try pulling the body outwards while turning it, with luck it will unscrew from tne block then you can get it in a vice to release the cap (apply heat to the body just below the cap if really stubborn)

Great, I am not being stupid.

Yes the whole body has loosened and is now wobbling about as if not being held on a thread but will not come away from the car.

I live and learn  ;D ;D :y
