2.5 V6 Ever had this problem? Missfire
« on: 23 December 2008, 16:35:14 »

My 2.5 V6 runs spot on normally (fast and reliable)
However all of a sudden after heavy rain it either has trouble starting or starts but then missfires when warm, like as though its only running on 5 cylinders.
So you start to think is it the plugs? Is it the fuel filter? Is it the plug leads or is it something worse. Is it electrical or fuel related
Have the plugs been changed recently? Have i got dirt in the fuel tank and where did i fill up last.

I will give a big xmas kiss to anyone who can guess what the problem was - go on you know you want to play along it is xmas after all.

likely to be water on the cables or dis pack.  do your best to dry it out and then see if you have a problem.  Likely to be related to heay rain.

Is this a game or a real problem?

Is rain is leaking through the wiper spindle hole in the scuttle and down onto the drivers side camcover/no. 5 plug lead area?

Check the 'joint' between the two parts of the 'plastic scuttle', in heavy rain water leaks onto No6 plug and the 'dispack', try a big can of WD4? to see if it makes a difference.

My 2.5 did exactly that. One day heavy rain and down to 5 cylinders. DIS pack was FUBAR'd , turns out water had been leaking onto it for quite a while and it was badly corroded. The heavy downpour finished it off. 2 sockets were corroded and the leads knackered as well so ended up with new DIS pack and a full set of leads. And new plugs as I'd had to drive it quite a distance missing on 1 or 2 cylinders all the way.
