Changing transmission fluid on an auto box
« on: 14 January 2009, 16:18:12 »

Good afternoon
Sorry to sound thick, but is there a process on here (with pics) for changing the automatic transmission fluid on a 2.5v6 Auto 1998 (R-Reg)

Cheers
Steve

check the maintenance section their will be a guide.

mod added guide:-

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

its fairly easy to do but i wouldnt wear any clothes you want to wear again as ATF sinks. especially used stuff.

you will need a new filter and gaskets for both sums.

hi sorry forgot to add

you need to remove both sumps. once removed leave a tray undet the gearbox to allow it to drain into it for 30mins or so.

clean out the sumps look at the magnet and see what debris has been attached to it. cleanit off with kitchen roll

look in the front sump for the dreaded thrust washer and anything that looks like it shouldnt be in here.
while you are cleaning them you need to clean the old gasket off.

the filter is bolted to the underside of the gearbox unbolt and fit the new one then refit the sumps with new gaskets fitted.

then follow the guide above after filling the gearbox up with around 4ltrs before turnin the car on. from what i can remember it will take about 4ltr cold before you need to follow the guide above.

good luck and if you have any more ?'s please dont hesitate to ask.
i have done this sh@t loads of times on mine.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you do any work on the Miggy in this weather like that Marie then at least you'll have a couple ideal places to hang any washers :D.
