Air Con service
« on: 12 January 2009, 20:42:30 »

I know its not much the time to think about the A/C as the temp in Leicester has not been about 4c for the past few weeks i think, But with it being a boiling 10c and not having it serviced for a few years took it to a place in Leicester to have it all done.

When they checked it was low on gas no leaks as had the dye added last time. The nice thing now is that .
1 The car is a lot easer to keep a nice temp
2 The fans are a lot quiter than before as if they dont have to work as hard to get the right temp and keep it.
3 No more misting at all in the car.

All in all very happy with the outcome and will save having to get it done in summer. Also had them put in new dye for leak detection.

One more job down :y.

It was £65 all in for a full service was not sure before but think in money well spend as the car is so much nicer to been at an the temp it just right .They also put in dye for leak detection.

When i rang around Leicester most places where £50 just for a regas.
Hopfully this will save having to run around mid summer to get it done when i need it most.

Hope that is of help :y

You can always have it done at WIM after they align your car ;)

It's also generally better to get it done when the weather's nice and hot. Means any moisture will be driven out easier when they vac it down so if it can wait 'till spring....

Now what on earth is WIM? Sounds like some sort of techno speek please enlighten this ignoramus!! :-[ :y                                              Kevin, Nice to know you look on the bright side."Nice and hot spring weather" WOW! up here in good old Yorkshire I'll be waiting some time I think to have my AC serviced. What do you mean by "Vac it down" do they create a vacuum in the system prior to doing a re-gas? :-?  :y

Yes, or at least they should do, if doing the job properly. In a vacuum, the boiling point of water becomes very low, so any moisture in the system "boils off". It should be vacuumed down to as close to a pure vacuum as possible and left like that for 30 minutes or so, before refrigerant and oil is added.

The hotter the system when doing this the better. It's more of a concern if the system has been empty for a while, of course. If it is just low on gas but has remained pressurised it's unlikely to have been contaminated with moisture.

WIM - Wheels In Motion, THE experts in omega geometry, which many people travel to use, they also do aircon regassing, and seem to know what they are doing.
