my engines eaten its self! ...
« on: 17 January 2009, 17:43:23 »

read into the subject what you will lol... i may have literally eaten munched up bits of its self...

basically it broke down and went with a bit of a quick munching noise and lost power and cut out straight away and wont turn over but does try (crank doesnt even move though)

anyway i checked the timing belt and it's intact and not bad looking along with the tensioner that looks pretty new tbh

just wondered what people thought..
head or bottom end? lol

btw it has bits of... almost look like chips/small turnings if you know what i mean in the plenum, and a bit of oil too!

thanks

i dont think so tb but i'll check tomorrow...
wouldnt this mean i'd have to change the heads anyway as it'd have probably bent some valves in the process?

thanks

i'd rather the engine wanted swapping than just the heads tbh lol then i could just rag the engine out, rag the diff off and the hids then scrap the shell!

Maybe having diesel in it upset it and it jumped a tooth or two then?? You have some replacement 3.0 heads so why not just swap them if it turns out to be that?

First things first. Check the cam timing is still OK then do a compression check. You'll know where you stand then.

well only thing is its been running fine since markey corrected the vac piping (some was chaffed through even so multirams werent working at all above 3k rpm (hence it went like a fart up against a focus cdti even!)

and im on about swapping the heads over tomorrow (4 o'clock in the morning mission to get the car jacked up and get the exhaust downpipe nuts off) lol!

i cant check the timing as it is kev as the crank wont even turn so would mean taking the belt off which defeats the point of "checking" it

anyway i'll strip it down and try and get the heads off and post up some results

nope not really does it lol, it's got bits of metal in the plenum just behind the throttle bodys too and a bit lurking around inside the plenum its self!

i tried turning the crank anti clockwise (even though it's a bit of a no-no..it wasnt exactly going to bugger it anymore i thought lol) and it only moved about a degree... is it possible that a whole valves broken and got lodged in the cylinder bore?
