There is no straight answer to a question like this unfortunately, Some tyres perform better in the wet than other's, but these tend to be of a softer compound, as such will not last the mileage.

Visa versa harder compounds are good in summer and on dry roads with the ability to give decent mileage but can leave you in trouble on a wet road, or damp raod.

Personally, and i think this does come down to personal choice and how much you are planning to spend. You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to tyres (with the exception of one or two), but I find conti's and dunlops tend to be better value without comprimising on quality and giving alround performance.

Agreed, in reality I don't really mind splashing the cash....as long as they last a reasonable time/mileage :y

I can tell you which ones NOT to buy, westlakes! the sidewall splits before 10k miles, which is a mot failure even if the treads are ok.
