So not good then. Is it a big job for a garage to do, and is there anything else that would be a good idea to do at the same time. Service, belts.

Or should I shift it on and buy something else?

I would love to, though really don't have the tools or the know how. I rank the main dealer yesterday and your right, will cost more than buying the car. But if I can not do it myself what choice do I have.

I had a lotus esprit that I worked on after being given what I sure was simle advise. £4500 damage, that was not a good day.
