Breather system blocked badly
« on: 14 February 2009, 09:46:28 »

Ventured under the bonnet to have a look at the heater system, thought i'd have a look at the plugs after it was mentioned as a problem on here.

Is it a problem, a bad one. pulled the HT lead out and there was oil a good inch up the base of the lead, I couldn't even see the plugs.

I think i'm just gonna book it into a garage and ask them to sort it asap, don't want to be messing around with this for too long.

I have seen the very good thread on here but am not confident enough to start pulling the engine apart tbh.

Is there any quick fix for this until after the weekend? Would removing the plugs allow the oil to drain back down? Worth doing? Am i right in thinking the NS rear plug is a bit of a bitch to get to?
Anything else I can do in the meantime?

Starting to think this wasn't the bargain i hoped :(

I wouldn't entrust a garage to this job. They will cock it up and blame the fact that it reoccurs after a couple of weeks on these mythical warped plastic covers, rather than the real reasons - skimping by using pattern gaskets, and doing the nuts up too tight.

Clean out breather system as will.

Use a syringe to get oil out of wells, rather than let them into cylinder.

Prolonged use like this will destroy the leads as well.

If you still fancy having a garage do it, then I can thoroughly recommend Central Body Repairs at Acomb Green.

Great bunch of lads and don't try and rip you off, mess you about or bodge owt. ;)

Thanks.

Nice to see someone local on here.

Was up at Camerons Motor store earlier actually. Will consider the garage too as it's very close to me.
