Does sound like a classic manifold blow to me, it is a hard one to pin point.
If you have checked the downpipe joint and that is fine then it is more than likely the manifold.
It may be be cracked it might just be the gasket.

Try 2 of you looking, one can block off with a piece of rag in the hand but only briefly whilst the other listens for the blow.

Either that, be quick from a cold start and start feeling with your hand - you'll only get 15-20 seconds before you get burnt though...

It does sound like a cracked manifold though as they tend to disappear when its warmed up..

It never goes away completely - just when you give it some beans, the amount of gasses overcome the closing up of the gap.

Hi,
a plastic pipe broke in my meggy and made the noise I think you're describing only a few minutes from start (when cold).

It's located by the right of the engine as you look at it from the front near the radiator in front of the battery. Tomorrow i can post a photo if you need.

It's black and could be worth a look if it's that as this was absolutely cheaper than manifolds that the mechanic (Official Opel mechanic) said was broken.

Regards,
Raśl.
