.....  Tractor obviously more often, as its a diesel.

The oil in my diseasal Astra has been in for about 1500 miles. It was [size=12]black[/size] the day after I changed it.  :-?  

Perfectly normal on the diesels - different combustion/fuel characteristics etc. I'm presently changing the tractor's oil/filter every 2500 miles due to Mrs Sethsmates stop/start local journeys.
Using Vx semi synthetic as it's well-priced!
