Air bag light is on on my dash ( I think )
« on: 24 February 2009, 22:16:16 »

Hi , I have had a red light on for a while now , the local garage said it meant I needed a new Jig ( I think but maywell be wrong ) he said it was something inside the steering wheel that needed replacing , to do with setting off the air bag I assume. Anyone had this before , is there a "quick fix " as I am not sure I want to spend £200 od quid on a new one.  Is this something you can buy used from a breaking Mig ( see I am getting the hang of this now :). Any advice would be very welcome , Thanks as always in advance,

take care

Hi IanB , thanks for the info , as I have said I am no mechanic, how do you do a paper test , do you mean plug into a garage computer fault finder?

Thanks

AFAIK to correctly diagnose / put out the airbag warning requires plugging in to a "real" Tech2 .... I don't think the paperclip test will give the required info .. :(

Paperclip test is here .. but AFAIK its only for the engine ECU

I think you your mechanic meant the airbag squib.  If this fails then it can cause an airbag light but it is rare for this to happen so I doubt it is the cause of your light coming on.

No I mean the paper clip test.
Fekin wireless key board is so slow.
The numpty at the garage is most probable talking 'dangle berries' but you already know that

Before changing parts ad-hoc, you need to get the SRS/Airbag ECU read...

Even if the squib was the fault and you replaced it, you'd still have the air bag light on till you reset it, it won't reset by itself.
Cheapo Tech II will read the fault & reset it when fixed.
