Air con
« on: 27 February 2009, 12:42:32 »

I've never really fiddled with A/C on a car other then regassing.
Is it correct that the front bit of the pump starts spinning when the A/C is on? Mine just spins along a little no matter what the A/C is set to  :-/

Yes, but mine does not seem to kick in. There is no change in speed when the A/C is on.

I've had this before on a Volvo 850 and after a regas it worked fine.
Not sure if this will work for the Omega.

With a/c off the front plate should be stationary, if it is spinning slowly then there is some clutch drag and the clutch will wear out very quickly.

When a/c is turned on the electromagnetic clutch should engage with a bit of a clonk, if it isnt then usual cause is low refrigerant oressure but it could also be a faulty clutch coil etc.

Mine still spins/drags with the a/c off. :(

Probably looking at a new/recon pump then?

You don't need a new compressor! You can get the a new clutch kit and have it changed, it's a lot cheaper! I see your near Glasgow, I can give you a tel no to call to have it checked out and to get a price, he will come out to you.

Hi,

Yes, not far from Glasgow but (if possible) I do all the work on the car myself.
The clutch kit is also for sale, I hope?
