My Mega is an early pre-facelift so doesn't have the longer plenum or the canister type oil filter as yours so best answered by someone who does but the plenum part should be an easy job :y.

JUst in case i've over looked something, how much is it to replace the whole part if the o-ring doesn't fix the problem?

If the o-ring was missing then i would say you've solved the problem when you get a replacement but in the event it doesn't then best to ask in the wanted section for a good second hand one :y.

Try looking at the above if you find you can't get your oil filter off or it brakes while trying :(.

OK i took another look thjis morning and the o-ring isn't missing but it is broken in 2 places, ordered one a vx with some new spark plugs as well and i'll pick them up later. On thing that did concern me when i took it off though was that was oil at the botton of the unit where the two little pipes connect into the bigger pipesa at the front of the engine. Could this be a sign  that the cam cover gaskets have gone?

No not a sign of leaking camcover gaskets but is the cause, oil will be found there as this is the engines breather system but would be advisable to give your breather system a clean out or you could end up with blown camcover gaskets if left untreated :y.

Usual sign of leaking gaskets is oil in the plug wells :(.

Thanks everybody for your help, fitted the new o ring tonight and it has fixed the air leak, which has also fixed my high idle and my low mpg, he's now doing about 8mpg better! Cleaned out the breathers up here whilst i was in there and ran some carb cleaner through the air intake, al seems good now.

Going to change the spark plugs next but i need to find my extension for my ratchet first to get the screws off the coild pack as the fuel pipes are in the way!
