HELP! faulty radiator fan, i think?

hi everyone jus wana say i only had my 2.5 cdx 4 days but am totally in love

any way 1 prob i noticed is that engine is bit hot. i had a look at fans and noticed that the fan ( if you were standing in front of car looking into windscreen) on the left, out of the two together has stopped working. is this a fuse, resistor or relay or do i need to replace the fan?

any help greatly accepted

The fans do not both work at the same time, as I recall, but I am happy to be corrected.

As I understand things, one runs almost constantly at a lower speed and the other starts when the temperature rises and the first fan kicks into a higher speed as well before dropping out as the temp falls..

You say the engine is 'hot' ........

What sort of temperature are we talking about here?

the temp is reaching 100 with just 2 of the 3 fans running

We're into head-cracking territory here.
My initial guess is a restricted rad or stuck thermostat. Personally, I'd change the 'stat first, as this is the cheapest and quickest option.
See what happens.

if you want to check the fan, unplug it and connect a live and earth tot he terminals ON the fan and it should start up (bit of a bodge but it will at least tell you one way or another)

My experience has been that both auxiliary (front) fans run all the time the air conditioning compressor is engaged. On occasion that one has stopped, the fan bearings were tight and it needed a manual spin to get it started, is the stopped fan hard to turn by hand?

I have never seen a normal condition where only one is running.

The main cooling fan is behind the radiator, if that is running in today's temperatures, other than in stationary traffic, with a/c off, I would be looking at the coolant flow through the radiator.

The front fans can be turned on by high engine temperature without the compressor being engaged, I've never experienced it, but I never disable the a/c.
