Boot release switch
« on: 10 January 2009, 15:35:30 »

Help ! I can't open the boot on my facelift Elite until I take the keys out of the ignition, when it will open with the dash switch or the key fob. My mates Elite of similar age can open the boot by pressing and holding the dash switch, even with the engine running.
Which one is right (not mine I think!) and how can I change it ? Is it a Tech2 thing ? [smiley=undecided.gif]

With some cars this is standard ... but can be overcome with a slight modification

Later facelifts were different ... seems Vx may have listened to their customers eventually :) seems you have a slightly older one than your mate :)

BTW .. I seem to recall that doing this mod has some effect on the interior lights delay ... can't remember what ... I'm sure someone who's done it will pass by and remind me ...  :)

Both ways are correct!  Vauxhall seemed to change the way this operated so you often get different modes of operation, even on cars of the same age.

I have had two 2001 Facelift saloons.  The first (51 Reg) opened the boot no matter if the key was in or the car was running, if you held the switch for about four seconds.  My current car (Y Reg) will not open the boot unless the key is out.

There is a mod in the guides section that will allow you to have a one touch open but there are possible electrical side effects to this so I have not done it myself.

With the boot mod. the interior light will have the same delay period whether ignition on or not. i.e. when key inserted light will not extinguish immediately :y

not on my 2001 mv6  :) the police fit a relay down in that area so that must leave the inside light ok when i bought my ex cop car i was going to remove this because i thought it was some of there gear that was,t removed but did,t thankfully so my boot opens keys in or not and there is no time delay at all, don,t ask me what way it is wired up but works perfectly, must be about the only good thing that the cops leave on these cars

Eventually got round to doing the boot switch mod. (thanks to the warm, dry, light evenings !)
Exactly as you said, guys, boot now opens with a press of the dash button with key in or out out. Interior light stays on for a few seconds longer after the doors are shut, but hey, I don't go out in the dark much anyway ! :y :y
