Bunch of questions
« on: 03 May 2009, 14:30:58 »

I'm looking for an Omega 3.2 Elite for around the £2.5 - £3k mark but I have some concerns.
I've been reading tons of stuff on this forum and I'm a little concerned that they seems to suffer an awful lot of problems. Now, I'm pretty handy with spanners but I don't want to be underneath it every weekend and I ertainly don't want to be stripping gearboxes down if I can help it.
Am I likely to have some seriously large bills if I get one?
How high is too high with regards to milage? Seen a few tidy 2003 models with 150k ish but FSH?
What are the serious mechanic faliures that these cars can suffer that make them uneconomical to repair?

Some pretty vague questions there but having lost my job recently, I don't want to be saddled with massive repair bills shortly after taking an Omega on.

They suffer no more than many othet high spec cars..if they have been properly and regularly maintained they will not give any issues..the problems start when they have not been looked after and had inferior or irregular servicing.
My advise would be to buy one from somebody from this forum as you then have a greater chance of it being looked after.
As a beside, they are not the most economical car given their weight and engine size,so in your situation might a smaller model be more suited

lets put it this way i bought my MV6 2 years ago nearly ive covered nearly 38k miles in it so far

all thats gone wrong are

Cranksensor i bought the car as a non runner because this failed
HBV £30 45 minuites of DIY Work
Wishbone Bushes & Front shocks 1 whole days work and £90 lighter!
MAF but i broke that myself so cant grumble with that!

and thats it! nothing else has gone wrong on it and its covered 129k miles not bad i think!

i service mine myself change the oil every 4.5k with 10w40 VX oil & make sure what ever you do make sure the car has had cambelt changes theyre due every 4 years 40k miles and they do break if not changed!!!!

ive seen omegas with well over 250k on them still going strong V6s will go on forever as will the 2.5td's if maintained properly!

Interesting.
I'm not worried about economy as my milage is minimal. Just want to be comfortable when I do drive. I'm used to driving luxo barges and I just can't bear to buy a Mondeo or a Vectra.

Also, I've noticed that most late Omegas on the trader are massively over priced. Some are over double the book price.
Saw one 3.2 Elite for £6.5k!
Are Omegas becoming popular again and thus the book price isn't relevant any more or are the dealers really trying their luck.
