It's generally accepted that if difficult starting occurs when the fuel level drops to around the 20 litre mark, that the problem is within the in-tank pump. You may be lucky and find a load of crud build-up in the swirl chamber or pump strainer.
You may need to bleed after doing this, though I didn't need to on mine.
When you've reassembled, turn the key to position 2, and you should hear the in-tank pump running for a short while. Then try to start, and see where you go from there.
Best to put a few gallons of fresh 'legit' diesel in the tank to kick things off too!

oh oh!! dirty diesel will cause driveability problems would think the pot will be covered in crap for sure? after lift pump would treat it to a good quality diesel cleaner direct into filter,
diesel magic or forte diesel flush are good ones just fill filter with it then replace and run engine for ten mins or so, then see how it performs after that  :y

Absolutely - a good drink of Diesel Magic/Forte has benefitted many a tractor!
And don't use 'supermarket' diesel, spend a few coppers extra on 'proper' filling station stuff.
