can someone tell me what i will need and how to change the fuel filter on a saloon.

some sort of eye protection from dirt and fuel, and on a petrol(no idea re diesel) grow a third hand, by the correct tool/pliers or, as i do use 90 degree hooked needle nose pliers after half an hour buggering about with two screw drivers trying to press in the tabs on the clip only to realise i need the previously mentioned third hand to actually pull the parts apart. Then run to the sink to wash fuel and crap from your face, mouth, nose, sleeve, arm pit.

Torch and something to rest your head on helps depending.... And if you wedge the torch in the suspension so you can see, dont forget to take it out again when done  :-)
