Power Steering Problem

When i'm parking up and have the steering on a hard lock its very noisey. The steering also becomes very heavy at the same time but returns to normal once i'm on the move. The power steering level had been very low but its been refilled but the fault is happening almost all the time now. I'm guessing the pump is on the way out or maybe a knackered rack????

There is no rack on the Omega. Pump is a likely suspect?

if it ran low, bleed it out by turning lock to lock a few times, just in case some air got in.

That said, sounds like a tired pump.  Its a job I have to do on the MV6 soon :(

Not a bad job on 98+ cars  :)
Not done one on a v6 (only on a tractor, that turned out to be a bastard), but looks straightforward, just the stripping done to get to it.

It might wait until later in the summer when the cambelt gets done.

A sensible option, as the air intake, SAI crap etc all has to come out for both jobs :)

My SAI pump is knackered plus the cambelt will need changing as I don't know when it was last done so maybe could combine all the jobs together. Ive had a look on ebay for the power steering pumps but they're all from cars with auto boxes, does it matter?

The V6 pumps are mostly the same, apparently the very last cars had different pumps that although will fit, will need the pipework specific for it. The fact it's auto doesn't make a difference.
I'm sure that you'll be able to get a pump from one the lads on the forum breaking cars!  :y  :y
