3.0 V6 Running Temp

Anyone know what the standard running temp is for a 3.0 MV6 1999.

She currently runs around 95 but she keeps creeping up towards 98 when aircon on and its warm outside. Is this normal??

they do seem to vary a bit.

1 of ours is fairly rock solid temp wise, dead mid point nearly all the time

the other does creep up to nearer the 100 without too much difficulty.

Running temp of all Omegas should be fairly steady on midpoint of gauge, maybe dropping down a hint on a cruise, and up a hint in traffic.

If you are getting halfway between midpoint and the 100C marker, that is getting too hot, and should only really be expected when thrashing it up Wrynose pass, partially sideways, on a hot day (1st lakes meet ::)).

Well I know I dont have any leaks or any blockages as fully flushed the engine on rebuild. What would the normal causes be to cause overheating.

The fans are all working and coming on just after 95. Could it be that the thermostats had it or do u think it could be something else.

Ive not really took her on a long journey yet but Ive noticed it the most after a thrashing ::) down he dual carriagway on the way home when a V6 Cavaliar tries to whoop me (not succeded so far  ;D)

Mine sitting at around 97 on a run also, stable though, gradualy gets there and then stops.

Mine does appear to vary depending on the temp outside.

Take today I took a steady drive home without aircon on and she gradually creeped up to about 97/98 but never appeared to get over that. Its approx 12 miles home at approx 40/60mph.

Before I did the engine stripdown and rebuild it used to averag 95 with fans coming on at 96. Could it be that the thermostat is fubar or does anything else cause excess heat??

Probably not thermostat,apparently when they pack up they stick open. :y

as a test today, as it was hot, i ragged the mv6 as much as i could, temp stayed around 95 (midpoint).  I pulled it into a layby, and let it idle.  It went to 96/97, then came back down to 95 with the fans cooling it. then around town it was going from 95 to 96 with the fans coming on to cool back to 95...


that is what i would class as normal

Had playtime with the facelifty 3.2 today and similar results.

Baseline figure remains as mid guage, or a baw hair less, as a general figure, but a higher movcement quickly brought into line by the fans.  holds true for facelift, mini lift or prefacelift, as far as we can establish.....     :y

Thats what mine used to run at prior to the rebuild. All hoses are connected ok and I flushed rad before rebuild. It had a full water flush to get rid of old coolant but I did not change the thermostat. I wonder if any of the crap from the old gasket or anything else while I had head off is restricting the thermostat closing/opening properly :-?

I can hear the fans when I pull up working overtime and they stay on for a while to cool the engine afterwards but my concern is why is she getting so damn hot over such short a distance. I know that shes a bigger engine but I cant see what the difference is other that crap in the stat??

What does everyone think??

Have you felt if the hose near the battery is getting hot?
If it is getting hot your thermostat is opening.
The hot water then goes through your radiator to cool the water down before it goes back into your engine. So the problem to me seems to be that the water isn't cooling down enough when in the radiator. I could be wrong but thats how it sounds to me. Radweld and crap like that makes a thin layer around the vains in the radiator etc so sometimes creates cars to run slightly warmer. Suggest you first take out the radiator and put some Fernox in it over night or 24 hrs if you can to get rid of some crap in there before going to the thermostat.

I shall be doing this myself as I have a very similar thing happening but I put a secondhand radiator on which I really think may have had redweld in it  >:(
