Roll Back
« on: 08 July 2009, 08:09:53 »

May sound like a silly question.

But my 3.0 MV6 Auto used to hold on hills when still engaged in drive but it has now started to roll back without warning if it is a steep hill. Is this normal as both my autos have always hold when sat on a hill.

Is it a case the box could be short on fluid.  :-?

not aware of any system that allows an auto box to hold on a hill reguardless of gradient. It will hold up to a point obviously but the car cant know how steep the hill is so eventually it will roll back if steep enough. However the point of roll back will also depend on the box working at max efficiency, so servicing the box atf every 60k or at any sign of trouble is always a good idea imho. So yes it may be low on fluid or need serviceing.

Well for a temporary measure until I can get a new gasket I will check the oil level. It cold be that as she does appear to be changing gear a little more erraticlly than she used too.
