Diesel Help
« on: 19 July 2009, 14:35:52 »

I have recently bought a 2001 2.2DTi GLS which is a non runner. It was sold as having an injector pump fault which I wasn't to bothered about because I was going to break it but after getting the car home it seems a shame as its in quite good condition. After having a read about the 2.2 pump it suggests that you spray Easi Start into the inlet hose, if the car starts but stops when you stop spraying, its more than likely the fuel pump, my car does this, but it also turns over slowly sometimes like a petrol with the timing too advanced, I was wondering if the timing chain may have stretched?

So what do I do? Do I get the pump recond at £200 and go from there and if I do what is a povo spec 2.2DTi saloon worth with 159,000 miles up it, any suggestions :-/

Are the pumps paired to the ECU's on these, as with Veccy C?

Hi Mate

I know this might sound redicules, but my local garage tried to tell me my fuel pump had gone.

I watch them trying to start it up for an age with easi start. Called back the next day to find the Boss had had a go at it and got it going.

Fault being an air leak on the fuel filter housing. Are you sure fuel is getting there? It could have cost me for bad diagnosis.

Sorry if I'm talking nonsense.  ::)

If you want a second pair of eyes let me know. I'm more of a petrol guy, but, I've had a lot to do with puggy diesels and know of the few basic things to look for on a TD engine.... Happy to give you a hand with it for no more than liquid renumeration...  :y

Me neither, but I do know about Oil Boilers ::) ;D you can have the same problem on suction lines.

I know how much trouble my local garage has had after they have done work on the fuel lines and filter. It's essential the line and joints have no leaks, they don't show as leaks, but under suction rather than pull fuel they draw air in instead. (No Fuel Suction)

Also when the pump is stopped air leaks can allow the fuel to run back to the tank. Instead of holding in the pipe. A bit like when you put your finger over the end of a straw. I could be barking up the wrong tree, but must be worth a try :y

I had the return lines chanced on my older 2ltr DTI because of they thought that was the problem a few years ago. It turned out to be a cracked fuel filter housing.

That car just turned 200,000 miles last week. Not bad for an old en ::)
