Retighten Cam Cover ?????
« on: 25 July 2009, 13:26:11 »

Hi,

I change my cam cover gasket on last december but seems I still have some oil leaking (very low) on the back of the engine (next to EGR) and spark plugs.
This time I didn't have the right torque done.

can I retighten for 8Nm ?? or should buy rings and gasket and make all service again ????
Thanks
San

in my experience with non omega cam cover leaks you can retighten without any problems. But if you have a blocked breather pipe it will keep on leaking, so have a good look round too

Thanks.

I think my fault was not change the oil when I did the first time. I just did the breather pipe and hose and kept doing journeys of 10 minutes only.

Should I take the cover off, clean nice or just retighten ?

If your gonna take it off be carefull not to split the gasket, amount of times i've split them then had to go source a new one is ridiculas. Should be fine just pinching it down

if it was only done very recently, you may well be able to reuse gasket

Hello All.

Sorry didn't get on the internet this weekend.

Yes I used genuine gasket. The pipe is the ones leaving the cam cover. The oil pipe.

Hi San,
In my experience on the breather pipes on a 2.2, there are 3 pipes from the cam cover - one which goes down to the sump and 2 on the left hand side facing the engine which block up. The small, thin pipe which goes down to the throttle body always seems to be the worst and takes a lot of cleaning because of the narrow bore - I use loads of carb cleaner and a piece of rod to push through. It's usually worth cleaning the throttle body at the same time as there is a pin hole below the butterfly which also blocks.
