Help Needed
« on: 18 August 2009, 22:46:09 »

Ok come on guys a little help required.

My partner has just got back from Aldershot with the joyfull news that the old girl has played up all the way home and that she had to have the RAC out to her before leaving.

She states that she started cutting out on her as she arrived in Aldershot so a relative called out the RAC and they diagnosed that the Idle Control Valve was faulty and disconnected it. She then had to drive around the M25 in a traffic jam with the car cutting out every time the foot was removed from the accerator.

On arrival home Ive put the connector back on started her up and read the codes and this is what I got 12 (initiation of diagnosis), 19 (Incorrect RPM Signal I think) and 129 which I have no idea what this is. So come on tech heads whats the problem.

Looking at the valve they disconnected (the one on the left hand side of plenun with pipe going down to the manifold) it is covered is soot!!!! Im guessing this means it has a leak  ::)

129   Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Feedback Voltage Low

Might be worth giving this a clean, or just try blanking it off with a thin sheet of metal between the valve and the flange it bolts to.

Don't know what they were thinking of disconnecting the ICV. Only thing worse than a sticky ICV is a disconnected one. ::)

Oh, and the 19 means you need to change the crank sensor. This might well be the main issue, TBH. :y

Thanks for the quick reply Kevin but before we go any further let me make sure I am talking about the ICV.

The valve the rac disconnected it the one that is mounted to the left of the plenum and has a steel pipe to it that then goes down to the drivers side manifold. Is this the ICV or the EGR?? Whichever it is she states he removed it, rubbed it with some emry cloth then refitted it before disconnecting the multiplug.

He then removed the valve on the right hand side of the plenum and cleaned that (but this was done only two weeks ago!!).

To be honest I got it off a member so I suppose a new one wouldnt hurt. Will give the VX stealers a call in the morning and see how much my tradecard can get me off.

Not saying it was bad but i believe these sorts of parts should always be replaced with new unless just testing to see if it's that that's gone :y.
