oil leak?
« on: 22 August 2009, 13:46:13 »

Right i still got an oil leak at the front of the engine, and the oil is still collecting on the drip pan just to the right of the oil filter, thing is when ive touched the oil its quite gritty, seems to be bits of something in it. ive felt around and it seems to be coming from my oil filter as there a slight leak from it, but the oil isnt collecting directly under the filter its just to the right of it under the large pulley at bottom of the engine. Would oil thats leaking from the filter be slighty gritty? and would there be enough force going through the filter to make it maybe squirt out to the side, if it wasnt fitted correctly?

ive felt around and cant find it running down from anywhere, the only place i could find any kinda of leaking oil was the oil filter , unless its leaking right from the front of the engine behind the cam belt covering

If it definitely seems to be coming from this area, have you tried giving the oil filter a twist to see if it's tight. The filter screws on to the heat exchanger and both connect to the oil pump - so 3 gaskets very close together.
I had a leak in the same area and turned out to be a knackered oil pressure switch - very easy fix.
