hi all first of all thank you for your help every body it is really appreaciated
ok today i decided to to have another go with a a little help froma mate who knowes electricity just to go over my work to see if i had done something wrong before i started chopping wires any way we changed the positive terminal connection as suggested as this is what it was looking like to be the problem nope it was still getting hot so we checked it all again alt was fine batt was fine so again another check eventually we think we found the problem the earth strap that goes from the sump to the chassie wasnt earthing propperley even tho it was clean
so we decided to ad another earth from the engine houst bracket to the main earth point under the battery as a test problem went
so decided to leave it but i also put a new earth strap on sump to replace original so it has two earths up to now everything seems ok voltage is working as it should even with every thing on wire gets warm but not hot enough to burn your fingers so fingers crossed its sorted i have orderd a new cable from alt to battery just to be on the safe side again thank you for all your help guys
