Exhaust update
« on: 22 September 2009, 12:22:33 »

Oh you can't nick Kwicker than a Kwik fit nicker....

At 8:30 this morning I took the car to the local Kwik fit for them to put a new backbox on. "Sorry mate, we don't have one in stock" was the reply I got, which was odd because I was told that at the weeknd and was why I booked it in early Tuesday morning so they could get it in on monday (idiots). I told them to ring me as soon as it had arrived and went home.

At 9:50 they rang and said the backbox had arrived, so I took the car down. When it was up on the ramps they took one look at it and said "Sorry mate, but you've got a hole in one of the pipes and that's so rusty we'll have to replace both centre boxes too". Perhaps my other half had written "MUG" across my forehead that morning without me seeing. Anyway, after being quoted £300 for them to replace two perfectly good centre boxes as well as the backbox I said thanks but no thanks.

Now in my head, I have a solution to the problem although not sure how realistic it is. The only real issue is the rust at the end of the centre box pipes where it joins to the backbox, so how easy would it be to use some appropriately sized metal tubing to fit inside the end of the centre box tube(to get rid of the holes) and then the other end fitting into the new backbox?

2.5 V6 Petrol.

Plus I already have a new VX backbox sat by the backdoor.

Which is why I am thinking, butcher the old one off, then fit the new one with a couple of extra lengths of tube.

Shame.... I've got a brand new 2.2 zorst here lol. Try a breakers yard for a length of suitable pipe, cut a slit down the end and fit it over the top covering both sides of the joint with U-clamps.
