2.6 oil cooler upgrade..HELP!!

hello lads
i'v got a o2-reg 2.6 v6 and it has oil cooler failure.i've been told i can mount an external oil cooler and mount it behind bonnet grill..my question folks is does anyone know what oil cooler will fit?and compatible hoses?one mate said astra gte cooler and hoses but i would like some back up on this lads?? also where the original oil cooler is,the plate over the top that the hoses come out of do i get a plate welded over the holes due to them not being needed any more??
any feed back greatly appreciated my omega driving brothers..

Stick with the original setup. If VX wanted the cooler to be external they wouldn`t have stuck it where it is ;)

As Rob says, its best to stick with the original design. I don't think Vauxhall would have spent millions developing the engine and placing the oil cooler where it is if a remote one was as good. A genuine replacement will last for donkeys years if the coolant mix is right and they're not that expensive ;)

is the 3.2 the same? because weren't the later ones stainless?

cheers for the fast replys lads..
some one did say 2me once in the pub that the 3.2 oil coolers are stainless and said to go for that but as he well lets say a wee bit intoxicated i took his advice lightly

what do you lads think is it worth me looking into??

but like i said cheers for the replys fellas i only posted the question 20 ish mins ago lol glad to see some people are on the ball 2nite lol.. 8-)

IIRC all the genuine replacement oil coolers are Stainless ;)

i'm going to vauxhall this wk to order the parts.so the replacement oil cooler they'll supply will be stainless!!..
i'v read and looked at the pics on the "how to"section and it states its worth having a crack at it ya self so i'm gonna?!? (wishing me self luck)i'v worked on cars obviously in the past changing suspension,rocker covers,n stuff so reasonably mechanicaly minded so looking forward to having a crack at it..just ordered full set of torx bitz and a set of crow foot sockets off ebay ready for the big day :-/ :-?

Get yourself some good coolant flush as well, Forte works well :y

Only very early cars were non-stainless, then GM realised their mistake ::).

In the environment where the oil cooler sits, stainless will cause a load of corrosion if the coolant is in poor condition (aluminium cover plate sandwiched between stainless cooler and iron block. Recipe for corrosion.

But yes, provided the coolant is kept in good nick, a new cooler will give no trouble.
