Only by getting the codes read. You could try removing sensor and giving it a good clean. Has been known to give a temporary reprieve :y

What year is the facelift. Some of the very first batch of 2.2`s could be pedal tricked for the codes

Looking at front of engine. The wire that disappears inside the front of the plastic cover with "Ecotec" wrote on it connects to the cam sensor. Cambelt cover off, move cable tray away, one bolt holding sensor in :y
First pic, small red circle at front of "Ecotec" cover, you can see the cable http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225024176 :y

Too late. Some of the "V" `99 were do-able until VX put a software upgrade in :'(

my 2.2 is on a X and it can't be pedal tricked.

From what you describe it sounds very much like the cam sensor, it could also be a failed coil pack, is there any oil in the plugs? How many miles does it have on it?

Hi tunnie not checked plugs will do first thing in morning, 69K on clock timing belt and tensioners done at 50K and yes i checked with the garage that did it i bought the car with 60 on it 3 month back. Managed to start her up again and back on to drive so its now level and will check atf level 2moro.

would the CAM sensor cause the problems with the transmission?

Anything else i need to check?

My coil pack started to fail at 118k, so unless yours had some serious abuse i would lean more towards cam sensor. From what you describe there are no transmission issues, its the cam sensor.

When mine failed it refused to rev, engine ran lumpy, mash the pedal to the floor, nothing. Restart, reved a bit, but barley moved, like it was running on 2/3 pots.

The replacement sensor should be a GM one, had quite a few reported issues with pattern sensors.

Get the codes read first, but my money is on that sensor  :y

Will do tunnie just need to find someone local with a code reader don't want to order a sensor from the stealers to find out its not that. The only reason i mention the transmission is that when it has started up she revs quite freely when in neutral but just no go when in drive or reverse???

Cam sensor failing on the 2.2 has been known to cause issues with the transmission
