Leak off pipes
« on: 07 October 2009, 12:50:47 »

Having trouble starting, I suspect its the leak off pipes. I have had a look and one is deffo leaking, they are the braided type. I have had a go at pulling them off but they will not budge, even tried tugging with some pliers. I did not want to do any damage so I have left them for now. Is there any special way of doing this? thank you

I did mine the other day. Get the replacement tube ready first and don't just buy the standard vauxhall pack from your locals factors! I realised once I'd started it was for a 4 pot  >:(

I used one of those cheap extendable craft knives to cut a slit up from the bottom then a thin screwdriver to tease it off. Old tube gets very brittle so tends to snap if you use to much pull ;) New pipe just slips on lovely. As I didn't have enough tube due the the factors giving me the wrong kit (which cost £5 BTW) the longest bit of pipe from injector1 back to the top of the pump. I just cut that in half and added a piece of rigid vacuum pipe (like off the old distributer vacuum advance) into the two, works fine so far :y

Cheers welung, I am having trouble with the piece of pipe that is coming out of the head, it's about inch&half long braided, should it just pull off?

will hot water soften the pipe - another little trick i used was to get a wire coat hanger cut slightly longer  (2 -3 inch) & taper a end so it fits inside the metal l/off pipe sliding down the flexi pipe enabled a better grip. also by putting the wire into the pipe 1st & then sliding the flexi down the wire i found it easier to push the l/off pipe  :)into situ when putting new pipes on.

Is the the one that goes nowhere on the closest injector to the bulkhead?

No, its the one for No2 cylinder that is leaking. Is it on a small metal tube from the head or is it plastic. Should it just pull off from the cylinder head?

I would replace them all and not just the leaking one. They do push on but because of the heat they will have become brittle and very tight, I had to cut most of mine off.

I intend replacing them all, It's just that I wasn't sure if they pulled off. I did not want to do any damage pulling them off (the pipes I mean).

There's a good chance the old pipe will snap, it might be easier to take the camcover off.

Will that involve replacing the gasket?  Is it a hard job there is no "how to" for the 2.2 dti on here, only one for the petrol.

Its easy, and if your careful the gasket can be reused
