3.2 V6 Missing some nice bits
« on: 08 October 2009, 23:20:49 »

Hi all,

I have just changed from a p reg 2.0 omega for an 51 plate  3.2 V6 special (an ex cop car)  lovely to drive BUT its lacking CC and a Trip computer. I have read on here the details about getting the CC working and have signed up to do so , i'm hoping it will reduce my fuel bill abit, but i cant find any details about the trip computer addition  :yor even if it can be done, any help on this and I would be most greatful

no if you have (or get) the righ one u will only need the display, stalks work with any, if you cannot find the right display but one that fits you can have it set up with a tec2 to work with the radio etc, some one on here may help you with that, you see the display will work but your miles and fuel used will be out I.E you get a 2.2 on and you have a 3.0 it will be out andhave to be set to the 3.0. ok m8

Its interesting that you have an expectatio about improving fuel consumption in changing from Aircon to CC.

Having had both I doubt you will see any difference at all, and TBH have actually found that I prefer the control over the temperature that the aircon gives me over CC.

Just a personal view you understand.

cruise control actually makes economy worse, not better. MID wise try and get a replacement from same engine & transmission, otherwise it needs a program with tech2.

For cruise control you need the stalk (get brand new) and a clutch switch if its a manual.

I think the op uses CC for Cruise control, not Climate control ;)

Thanks all for your input. CC = Cruise control sorry for any confusion.

Let me just get things stright, the Trip info will already be active on the ECU, only thing that will be needed is a display that can display the info by plugging in the different cable, Im guessing I will need a new stalk for the trip Computer as there are no buttons on my current one and as the car is auto there is no need for the clutch switch.

that right ?

it may not be a case of 'just' adding the screen.

you may not have all the sensors in the car to talk to it.

some bits may work, but it may also constantly report false errors

I don't agree that cruise makes any difference to economy. All it's doing is controlling the throttle to achieve a constant speed. Compared to driving at a constant speed manually it's the same.

Now, if your driving style off cruise is different (i.e. you avoid gearchanges and slow down instead when you encounter a hill, or you constantly accelerate then coast), it may make a difference either way, but cruise control in itself doesn't affect fuel consumption.

also a big saver if you have a progessively heavier foot  ;D

but yes, you can drive more economically yourself.

For me its hills, without cruise your foot generally stays at the same place, so you lose speed going up hill.

Cruise will always keep you at the same speed, so up the M40 hill cruise will give a lot more throttle to keep me at 80. Where as normally i would prob drop to 70ish.

I get 34 mpg with cruise and 35/36 without.

I find Cruise Control makes a big difference in improved MPG (3.0MV6) tend to use it most of the, especially on the low speed dual carriageways around London, too many speed cameras to worry about, Thinking that an Computer programmed to give the minimum amount of fuel to maintain a constant speed would do a better job than my brain or my heavy Boots
