Door deadlocked, won't unlock!!!
« on: 08 October 2009, 13:22:19 »

I have a small problem.  The passenger side front door lock on my '03 2.6v6 facelift has deadlocked and won't unlock. I can't pull the button up and open the door.  It had been a bit intermittent lately but was behaving itself when this happened. Any ideas how I can get the lock to unlock manually or otherwise.  Preferably without trashing the door card!
Alternatively where can I get a sensibly priced door card from? and I'l trash mine and see if I can release the lock from inside the car. I have no idea how to do this though - anyone?
All help very welcome.  Wife unhappy about climbing over seats to get in, or sitting in the back!!! and my ears are getting sore now, so I would like to get it sorted. :)

Many Thanks

Paul

I would say it's a trash the door card job.

The other alternative, is to try and trace the central locking wires back into the car, cut into them and provide the power yourself. The major downside to this method is that the fault is normally in the door or the wiring to the doors it's self. Therefore it won't work, but maybe preferable first method before trashing your door card.

same thing happened to me when my battery went flat, you need to use your key and unlock the door with the door handle pulled, it should de-deadlock your door

I've had this problem in the past & it was the mechanism sticking. I took the pin off & squirted a load of PTFE spray down the gap. Easy & worked, albeit on a pre-facelift!

Agree with Kaycee but try pulling button very hard by hand before resorting to mole grips.

Thanks all, I'll try a small amount of brute force and see how it goes.

Just in case though, any thoughts on a new door card source?

Cheers

How about 'encouraging' it to open as you opperate the central locking.  :-/  :-/

Well, good news, I got the button up with a pair of pliers and a small amount of 'effort' and opened the door.  Then didn't have to trash the door card.  Very happy man.

For now I have just disconnected the wires that feed the door lock motor and will operate it manually until I get a new one.

Thanks all for the help, and it turned out well, so I am very grateful.  Also the wife is now off my case, so that really helps!!!

Just a last question, where is the best / cheapest place to source a door lock motor?  No hurry but before its' next MOT I guess (next March) so delivery lead time not a problem.

Thanks again to all.

Mr MOT is only concerned that the door is opperable from inside & out. Whether it locks or not isn't really a concern.  :y  :y
