Tracking DIY
« on: 11 October 2009, 12:22:47 »

Now I need to check my tracking.

What is the setting, and how easy is it to do with a couple of bits of wood and a tape measure.

Camber is fine - done in December and using the same wishbones as I did then. That I can risk not checking.

Caster - should be fine.

And yes I do not have £69 spare even though I do have the time for a trip to Chesham. :(

betting you don't have £150 spare for a couple of front new tyres either? I would go to WIM, its the cheaper option in the long run.

WIM's adjustments to mine were small, but totatly changed the handling of the car.

Martin, what setting did you use for the camber? Just done my front discs and bearings and my 20,000 mile Dunlops are perfect except for the innermost 10 mil which is goosed! The tracking will need doing but I also want them to give me less negative camber than the spec figure.

I also do not have anything spare for new pants or sock. Nor for a school trip deposit.

I think Tony aims around 1 deg 10 min, if you can afford it WIM is worth it.

Yes done it years ago on previous cars. It is quite practical when there is no other option

For camber I find 1 deg20' about right, rather than the nominal 1deg40' that Vx recommend.

For toe setting DIY your best bet is a piece of string round the real wheels pulled taught across the fronts. It only works if the rear toe is correct though. I can just about get mine in spec using this method but you won't actually be able to set it up precisely.

Parallel toe is just in spec, ideally you'll have a smidgen of toe in.
