from what ive been told from the fellow oof-ers im not thinking bout the cool running stat anymore ;)

im just gonna try changing the stat for a normal gm standard stat as im having me miggers cambelt changed soon so gonna get that changed at same time ::)

then if im still getting slightly high occasional temps then ill swap out the rad aswell :y

Unless you are particularly rich, I'd suggest taking the radiator you've got off the car, use some sort of flushing solution (hot water + bio washing powder would be the cheapest option), fill it with that and leave overnight, then flush the bugger to kingdom come with a hosepipe.  £200 saved.

Having ripped my old rad to bits (had a crack in the plastic) and looked at the size/condition of the coolant passages, it seemed quite improbable to me that 'unflushable' deposits could block it.

If the cam belt is coming off check / change the water pump as well. You never know. Could be a plastic impeller fallen to bits.

I would not recommend oil flushes (regular oil changes are best)

Coolant flushes would be ok, best thing to do is take the rad out. Fill it with boiling water, and feel for any cool areas.
