MOT failure - Need to understand what it is...
« on: 08 November 2009, 09:21:38 »

Right, my omega did not clear its MOT (only when I thought it would fly through)

The problem which I do understand is "near side front suspension arm has excessive play in pin/bush". Is this the wishbone? As I recently changed the wishbones and got the geo done at WIM or is it something else and how much it might cost?

If, it is wishbone so I need to get WIM done again?

Appericiate any help.

Thanks

its the bush in the wishbone, you can replace it on its own. WIM can do it, i always keep a spare set of wishbones when ever we take one down just in case.

Thanks, Tunnie. It still beggars belief, the wishbones were replaced less than 1k miles.

Will call WIM tomorrow and check if they can replace the bush and do a partial geo set-up. Believe, that will be needed, right?

The only explanation I can think of is hitting the curb at 20 mph which left a crack in my tyre.. do you reckon the wishbones bush might have been damaged then?

Actually re-reading it, could they mean track rod end?  :-/ (common failure point)

How far are you from WIM? Might be worth taking it there, letting Tony see whats what, to actually see what needs doing.

And yes wishbone / trackrod end replacement needs it re-done. I was lazy and let a garage do my track rod end. They completely destroyed the setup, took it back to WIM to fix what they done  :(

as said, its the bush in the wishbone, the bolt is loose or the bush has failed early. What make did you use? There have been some early failures with items bought from buypartsbuy iirc.

Thanks, not very far off from WIM so that should not be a problem.

What's the trackrod? Front Stabiliser Link Bar?

I only know it as track rod end  :-[  ;D

It controls the toe input!

Pop it down WIM, let Tony give it the once over then order the bits your need and they can fit them. (or ring ahead, they might order them in)

buypartsbuy, that is it. This time I will let WIM handle it then, can't be bothered to get it done time and again

hmmm, thats annoying.

Maybe try F.I.A.(50 odd) as a cheap option or Lemforder(110 delivered) who make the originals for G.M. Or if you still have the old ones press some heavy duty bushes into those.

But i suppose with the mot, time is of the essence if you need the car.... :-(
