Advise From P/Clip Test
« on: 08 November 2009, 14:59:41 »

When I started car to go to work this morning engine was very lumpy and car seemed to have very little power and would not pull despite engine reving.Managed to get to work but no eml on although very little power.
When started to come home could hardly get car to reverse as couldn,t get the revs to be even .Managed to get on to motorway and at approx 50mph eml flashed on and off several times so atleast car showing a fault now.
Got home with difficulty and when did clip flash test expected to find crank sensor at fault but it came up with only 89...oxygen sensor low voltage.
Any idea what this is pointing towards,as car will start and run but very rough and little or no power to pull away.

Car now idles but very rough and does sound like its not running on all 6 cylinders .
Is there a difinitive test to establish faulty dispack,or just replace and hope for best.

Plug wells bone dry and all leads are fairly new along with plugs.
Replaced dispack last year(about 30k ago)with a second hand unit so perhaps that has now started to die.
Will dig out old paperwork and find its plug shape and then go a hunting for a cost effective replacement, along with some plasters...again.

Mm...buy cheap..buy twice ..I know... but it was the easy option at the time...A call to Autovaux in the morning looks like my best choice and a pleasant morning on wednesday skinning my knuckles.

Courtesy of Mark`s guide on knock sensor
"A crude method for testing your DIS pack is to unplug the knock sensor and run the engine, the retarded timing will result in a higher voltage being required to ignite the fuel and hence a weak DIS pack will often miss fire. Note though, this can be terminal to a failing DIS pack!"
