Ratchety steering ?
« on: 10 November 2009, 23:49:14 »

Hi, was doing a 3 point turn, right hand down hard. Loud 'crack'. Thought someone had thrown a stone at my screen ? Set off on journey, now steering clicks as you turn it, sounds like a ratchet under the steering wheel ? Both stalks still work properly, and steering is normal. Any help appreciated..  ;)

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

U J needs a grease up, remove carpet at bottom of where the steering is and give it a go loob up, its just a bit dry. :y

If it sounds to come from just under steering wheel could be something (plastic?) come loose in that area - remove cowling to check visually.

Sounds like the airbag squib to me.  Often what can happen is a small plastic piece can break off and float behind the steering wheel and it is this that you can hear crunching.

Easy option is to remove airbag and steering wheel and remove that piece of plastic.  Don't forget to disconnect the battery first!
