2.5 V6 estate 1998 MPG?
« on: 11 November 2009, 16:01:19 »

Hi Guys, what miles per gallon should I realistically expect from my car normal urban driving, I've had this car just under a couple of months, my first Omega, it's just failed the test, but only on two exhaust rubbers missing and a small section of corroded brake pipe O/S front and rear, examiner said it was all pretty solid and in good condition.

He was asking about the petrol consmption, which is why I ask the above question, I put a tenner a week of V.Power in it, and I'm averaging about 30 miles or a little over each week, not quite using all the tenner, but this seems bit high to me.

On a run, motorway, I'm getting about 35MPG, any thoughts please?

I'll just also mention, it's been mostly quite short runs, the temperature gauge hardly moving of the zero position most of the time.

I don't drive it very much so do have a tendancy to make up for it when I do. I haven't reset the average consumption for a while, so a lot of what is averaged has been while a caravan has been on the back.
A decent coat of looking at wouldn't go amiss eitehr ......  ;D

I've just checked the trip computer, and re-set it to see how it goes over the next week or two. Trip read 734 miles, average speed 24.1, consumption 27 mpg, thats about a 70/30 urban and motorway, about a third of that trip miles was on when I got the car, so not sure if it was mostly urban or what, but I think it probably was, the guy said he had only used it for short trips to the university and back (local).

If it's averaging 27mpg mainly short journeys that's not bad at all.
Only had my 2.2 just over a week and I reckon going on the display I'm getting around 23mpg, that's doing very short journeys, stop start traffic. Just done a long journey in it and (120 miles) 50/50 motorway/A roads it returned 36mpg.
