Re-Charging Air Con
« on: 17 November 2009, 10:15:25 »

Hiya

I seem to remember some time back someone (I think it might have been The Boy but could be wrong) mentioned that he'd recharged his air con from a can from Halfrauds and it did the job fine.

Has anyone alse done this or have any details of the process?

Mine needs re-charging as at this time of year the windows steam up frequently and as money is tight, I don't wanna have to pay £50 to get it done if I can help it.

Where is the compressor located on a facelift? I'm sure he just plugged in a can and re-filled and it worked fine...but can't find the post?  Anyone help?? :question

Cheers

Forget it, the system requires just short of 1Kg of gas (the cans dont have anywhere near this) and needs to be vacced out first (which a can cant do).

More importantly....where has the gas gone....

I looked into buying a er-charge can from Halfords. They were (I think) about £30-£40. I decided it was better to pay my local air-con specialist £50 to do the job properly  :)

As has been said, they will recover any residual gas then put then put the system under vacuum before recharging.

They will also check for leaks with a flourescent dye in the gas if required.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

It's a seasonal Kwik-Fit offer, check it is still current-our local one is advertising this at £44.95.

It is mentioned on various voucher codes sites so get internet trawling!
