Swapping key chip
« on: 29 December 2009, 23:55:40 »

Pondering over whether to get my original ECU fixed or buy another. The car drives ok with the ECU from my '94 "spares bin" but is now idling a little eratically and lumpy at just above 500 rpm.
If I opt for a replacement ECU, does anyone know if the key chip can be swapped over or re-programmed or is it a case of changing the ignition barrel etc. ?

sound more like a air pipe blocked than ecu fault, fuel filter can make it lumpy as well, or even a air leak.

The lumpy idle only starts once the engine is fully warmed up. I'd prefer the correct ECU back on and then address any issues that may still be present

The fact that this one is down on power is no bad thing with the current weather conditions, but it's not something I want as a permanent fix.

you could swap over the chip but would need the ecu programed to match your orginal chip.ecu plus reciever around ing barrel and chip from donor car then no programming involved.

I have the offer of an ECU complete with the lock set, ignition barrel, key etc.
The buttons of the key are quite worn and I was wondering whether I could swap over the chip to my key and just fit the ECU without having to swap everything else over.
