2.5TD - No boost when pulling away?
« on: 30 December 2009, 19:41:21 »

Hi all, my first post here  :)
I've owned a 1997 2.5TD Estate for a year now. A couple of weeks ago, a new problem occurred. As I pulled away from a set of traffic lights, there was no boost from the turbo. The engine revved all the way up very slowly, with the resultant slow acceleration. On changing into second, I let the revs fall all the way back to idle before lifting the clutch and normal service was resumed.
This has happened intermittently quite a lot of times now and I'm getting a bit fed up of it. I know the basics of turbocharged cars, so I'm guessing this is an electronics problem, as the mechanical parts are quite simple, they're either broken or they're not!
Any help would be appreciated. I've done a search and couldn't find anything related.
Cheers, Raz

P.S. A bit of background about me, I'm a 31 yr old Weapons Instructor in the RAF, I play Ice Hockey and race a Reliant Scimitar SS1 Turbo  8-)

assuming no leaks on boost pipes? my bet wuold be boost pressure sensor bunged up with crud from inlet manifold egr system, or the pipe is split so its not seeing boost, its on the bottom or underneath side of the inlet and the pipe from it leads to the boost sensor which is near the inlet manfold ]

Paperclip it, looking for a code 64.

Also, check the wastegate is free to move without sticking.

Hi, thanks for the replies. What would I expect to see or happen if I unplug the MAF?
