 Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with my 2000 2.2 auto Omega. The engine management light has come on a few times and then gone out.  I had Vauxhall  take a look at it, they said that it needed a new ECU and Lamber sensors but would not guarantee the work.  They reset the light and it stayed off for a month or so. 

Abut a month ago I had Camco in Warrington look at it as the throttle also did not respond on occasions’.  They cleaned the throttle housing and analysed the ECU.  They say that the Cat is at fault, it has had a new one fitted not GM and so they say the ECU does not like the readings.  Again the light has stayed off for a while within 500 miles it has come back. 

I have also noticed that the MPG has dropped from 25 to 21 around town, the auto box does not always change when it should (when cold) revs go high.  This comment I have noticed on other.

There is no misfiring, I have just purchased an OBD2 Reader, and read with interest Kevin Woods writings on Fuel Trim Malfunctions.  Any one got any ideas of how to fix this and reduce the risk of spending £1000’s ?

The fact its coming on and going off,and going by the year i would say cam/crankshaft sensor (Can never remember which one it is) The one that has the 'hook' look at the end...........

Drop the car round next time you're passing, we'll reset those codes, giving us a clean baseline from that point in time

Why bad?  Onboard diagnostics have detected an abnormality, so puts the engine and drivetrain into a reduced power 'get home' limp. Better than insisting it goes on a tow truck

Why bad?  Onboard diagnostics have detected an abnormality, so puts the engine and drivetrain into a reduced power 'get home' limp. Better than insisting it goes on a tow truck

on mine it only put the box in limp so after buying car with knacked box i put new box in and exactly the same no automatic changing till i fit new maf,so in my opinion previous owner carried on driving car in 3rd and burnt the box out cos you could still get full revs the bad design i refer to is it should cut down the revs and not affect the box so you cant carry on revving its nuts off to set off in 3rd all time(i know yer can manually change but previous numpty didnt)

FFS, if the previous retard owner was too much of a prat to get it fixed - IE A rather GREAT ORANGE LIGHT SAYING I'M breakED, no design in the whole wide world is every going to to cater for such a pillock.  I mean, 100m sperm, and he was the quickest???

FFS, if the previous retard owner was too much of a prat to get it fixed - IE A rather GREAT ORANGE LIGHT SAYING I'M breakED, no design in the whole wide world is every going to to cater for such a pillock.  I mean, 100m sperm, and he was the quickest???

all im saying is i think it would be better to lose some revs and keep your gearbox functional its not much fun waiting for a mile gap at a junction so yer can pull out

The ecu cannot necessarily determine exactly what is wrong, so it puts itself and the box into various fail safes.  Remember, this is just an error handler routine to get you home or to nearest garage. Its designed to be driven no further than that. Thats why it pops on the warnings, so you get it immediately looked at.

Hi,  OK its me again,  I have established that the code P0220 01/01 code brought the light on.  That seems to the the Throttle Position Sensor.  I might see if the same happens again.  I reset the errors and the light has gone off.  No m,ention of CAT codes. 

What does anyone think?  any ideas?
