Battery Sizes, Ratings Needed
« on: 10 January 2010, 20:49:59 »

Hi ppl

Newbie to the site and i don't actually own a omega myself but my dad does, we brought it the other day few little problems with it.. The battery is F**ked we think it dropped a few cells it won't hold any charge. i trying to find some information about what amp and everthing else that goes with a battery we will need to power the car...

The Car Is A Vauxhall Omega, 2.0 Ltr, P Reg..

The Battery that is already in the car is some weird make all it says on it is 650 / 75.. i have looked on the net the only thing i can find is 590 / 65... I contacted vauxhall and they couldn't / wouldn't tell me anything about ratings and just said a battery was 80 quid... the ones i have seen on net are 40 / 50 quid but will they work..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-Omega-Mk2-1999-2004-2-6-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ180431019520QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a0286de00

this is some of what i have looked at.. Help Me Plz..

I'd hazard a guess that those numbers mean 590 CCA (Cold Crank Amps) / 65Ah (Amp/Hours).

I wouldnt imagine you'd need a CCA that high for a 2l miggy (but I could be wrong) . You should be able to go to halfords and tell the bloke at the parts desk its for an Omega and he will come up with something suitable. They usually have a cheap and an expensive option, one lasts longer.

Vauxhall do 2 batteries , a cheap one and a quality expensive one. Sounds like they are quoting you the expensive one there.

According to 'eurocarparts' (www.eurocarparts.com)
You need a battery with CCA of 470, and 53 or 60 AH for your model of car.
They quote several different makes, but two capacities, 53ah and 60ah
Cheapest are £39 for the 53ah, and £42 for the 60ah

Check out the website, you can also look for the nearest outlet to you. They are a national company, I have used the local branch several times, and am happy to recommend them..

Hope this helps.  :y

650 cranking amps is a bit much for a 4 pot, i'd get one from Vx, used their batterys in all 3 of ours. Father tunnies has the Original battery from 2001  :o

You can't have too much. The higher the cranking amps the better the battery.
